How to host and how to join
Play Vintage Story through Neonlink using the default launcher. No Neonlink mods, VPNs, port forwarding, or extra network configuration are needed. Just start Vintage Story the way you normally do, then link up with your friends. Make sure all your friends play on the same gamer version and have the same mods installed to avoid complications.
Invite some friends and click Online to allow your friends to connect.
Start Vintage Story and choose a singleplayer world to play in.
The other players will need to run the same game version as you.
If you decide to use mods, make sure everyone installs the same mods.
Once the world has loaded, open the pause menu and choose Open to LAN.
This step should turn green when the server was detected.
The other players should now follow the Neonlink player guide on their end to join your game.

A LAN world only stays online while that world is open. If you leave the world or close the game, your friends will be disconnected.
Wait for the host to allow connecting by starting the link.
Wait for the host to start the game server.
Connect to the host link by clicking Online
Start Vintage Story and open the multiplayer menu.
If you are planning to use mods, make sure to install the same mods as the host! Otherwise you might run into problems.
You might see the server in the server list already.
If not, try Add New Server in the bottom right, enter a server name and thist Host / IP Address:the address shown in Neonlink

Questions before the first lobby
Do my friends need an account?
No. They install Neonlink, paste your invite code and join. Accounts are only needed for the paid tiers.
Do I have to open ports or set up a VPN?
No. Neonlink handles the networking on your PC; there is nothing to forward and nothing to configure on the router.
How many people can join?
Up to four players per lobby on the free tier. Overdrive lifts the ceiling; actual limits depend on the game and your hardware.
What if the game is modded?
That works, as long as everyone runs the same game version and the same mods or mod pack as the host.
